Beer Release: El Rio

El Rio Mexican Lager Brewed With River Water
Remedy Brewery and Friends of the Big Sioux River Beer Collaboration

Friends of the Big Sioux River and Remedy Brewery have collaborated on the release of a new beer, El Rio (The River) Mexican Lager. El Rio is brewed with Big Sioux River surface water. The beer contains 240 gallons of surface water that was pumped from the Big Sioux River. Once cleaned, the remaining 120 gallons are used to make four barrels of beer.

The release of El Rio will take place on Saturday, August 21st beginning at noon at Remedy Brewery located at 401 E 8th St #120, Sioux Falls, SD 57103. This is the second partnership and beer release from these two organizations. In the spring of 2021, they released Big Sioux Brew Kolsch style beer which consisted of the same cleaned river water.

“Our last partnership with Remedy was so fun and brought a lot of awareness to the potential clean water has. We wanted to try it again with the new mexican style lager to illustrate again the need for clean water and what we can do as a community to help clean up the Big Sioux River,” Friends of the Big Sioux River managing director Travis Entenman said.
