If you’re interested in helping clean up trash and restore a state park, FBSR is organizing a river clean-up at the Big Sioux River Recreation Area in Brandon on Saturday, June 6th from 9:00 AM to Noon. This state park, which sits on both sides of the Big Sioux, has a huge amount of debris and trash remaining from last year’s flooding. Those of you who use the park know that hiking paths in The Valley of the Giants Trail were obliterated under silt and debris and will have to be re-established. Our clean-up will focus on this area so we can help the park in its efforts to start the process of clean-up.
Volunteers should enter the park at the main entrance and follow signs on the main road to the Valley of the Giants trail and parking area. Register at the gazebo where you will receive bags, gloves, and directions. Please wear work clothes and hiking shoes. Long sleeve shirts and pants are recommended. We will be following CDC, city, and state guidelines and will be practicing social distancing as we're out and about.
