What can we learn from the Chesapeake Bay?
The Farmer published three articles comparing the Chesapeake Bay to the Mississippi River. In this series, John Vogel looks to how farmers in the Chesapeake Bay area have recuperated their destroyed watershed. Midwestern farmers have a vested interest in the Bay's adaptations, because a strategy needs to be developed to deal with the increasing amount of agricultural chemicals running off into the river. Vogel states there will be many challenges for Midwestern farmers, including funding issues. The articles in the series include: "Chesapeake Bay water clean-up regs would 'flood' Midwest farms," "Chesapeake Bay water clean-up model: What Midwest farmers learned," and "Chesapeake model: Who'll pay for Mississippi River's clean-up."
